Vitamin D Metabolism Genes and Risk of
 Colorectal Cancer in African Americans

African Americans have the highest incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer. Vitamin D appears to protect against colorectal cancer, and African Americans have the lowest vitamin D levels in the United States. Therefore, it is plausible that vitamin D insufficiency may account for some of the cancer disparities that appear in this population. The goal of this proposal is to better understand how hereditary factors involved in regulating vitamin D levels are associated with risk of colorectal cancer in this high-risk population.
