CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD:

Mrs. Maurice Goldblatt

Mrs. Goldblatt has served as chairman of the Cancer Research Foundation board of trustees since Mr. Goldblatt's death. Mrs. Goldblatt is chairman of the Heart Research Foundation, a member of the Women's Council of the American Heart Association, and a member of the Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation Women's Auxiliary, where she served as president for 10 years; she is an honorary director of the G.I.R.F. board of directors. Mrs. Goldblatt also serves as an honorary director of the Women's Board of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation (a separate organization not affiliated with the Cancer Research Foundation).

Merle Goldblatt Cohen

While a member of the Young Leadership Division of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago during the 1960s, Merle Cohen won the National Young Leadership Award. She was particularly effective in involving the second and third generations of Chicago's philanthropic community in an educational series which brought the expert educators from the United States and Israel to Chicago. Merle Cohen chaired fund raising events and served on the board of directors of the Women's Division of the Jewish United Fund of the Jewish Federation.

Past president of Child Abuse Prevention Services, a former Chicago not for profit organization, Merle Cohen served on its board of directors for over ten years, was a founder of its Women's Board, chaired the Illinois Child Abuse Prevention Advocacy Coalition, and wa a member of the finance and resource development committees.

Merle Cohen inaugurated the first, and chaired the first three, of the annual University of Chicago Hospitals benefits (1988, 1989 and 1990), each of which raised over $200,000 for specially-designated Hospital projects. She is a past chairman of the Women's Board of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation.

Merle Cohen served as president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation for six years, and was vice president of the G.I.R.F. board of directors for three years.

As president of the Cancer Research Foundation, Merle Cohen directs a committed board of trustees in fund raising and grant making programs aimed at fulfilling the Foundation mission of helping to cure cancer through research.

Stanford Goldblatt is a trustee of the University of Chicago. He is also a trustee of the University of Chicago Hospitals, and served as its chairman from 1986 to 1990. He is a member of the board of governors of the Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, a trustee of the Golden Apple Foundation for Excellence in Teaching, vice president and treasurer of the Heart Research Foundation, and a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago.
